To reduce the size you can consider staggering the start sequences of motor loads, this gives the generator a chance to recover from a motor start before another motor is connected. Purchasing a soft start or some type of motor controller can cause the motor to only draw 1.5 times the normal running KVA or less during starting. Also don't forget your heating, air conditioning or pumps that all use some form of motor. These all will have to be taken in consideration when figuring your electrical load.
